What the Health Care Bill Does for Average Americans

Posted by: Bluedog89

President Barack Obama addresses doctors at the White House.

HP~After months of fierce debate around the country and after an intense day of voting on Capitol Hill, a health care reform bill is on its way to President Obama’s desk.

Once Obama signs the bill into law, as he is expected to do on Tuesday, it will mean an end to the current health care system as we know it.

Pundits on the right and left have been reacting to passage of the legislation, but what does the bill actually mean for the average American?

The immediate effects of the health care bill as well as some that will take effect in the first year of implementation are as follows:

1. Health Insurers cannot deny children health insurance because of pre-existing conditions. A ban on the discrimination in adults will take effect in 2014.

2. Businesses with fewer than 50 employees will get tax credits covering up to 50% of employee premiums.

3. Seniors will get a rebate to fill the so-called “donut hole” in Medicare drug coverage, which severely limits prescription medication coverage expenditures over $2,700. As of next year, 50% of the donut hole will be filled.

4. The cut-off age for young adults to continue to be covered by their parents’ health insurance rises to the age 27.

5. Lifetime caps on the amount of insurance an individual can have will be banned. Annual caps will be limited, and banned in 2014.

6. A temporary high-risk pool will be set up to cover adults with pre-existing conditions. Health care exchanges will eliminate the program in 2014.

7. New plans must cover checkups and other preventative care without co-pays. All plans will be affected by 2018.

8. Insurance companies can no longer cut someone when he or she gets sick.

9. Insurers must now reveal how much money is spent on overhead.

10. Any new plan must now implement an appeals process for coverage determinations and claims.

11. This tax will impose a 10% tax on indoor tanning services. This tax, which replaced the proposed tax on cosmetic surgery, would be effective for services on or after July 1, 2010.

12. New screening procedures will be implemented to help eliminate health insurance fraud and waste.

13. Medicare payment protections will be extended to small rural hospitals and other health care facilities that have a small number of Medicare patients.

14. Non-profit Blue Cross organizations will be required to maintain a medical loss ratio — money spent on procedures over money incoming — of 85% or higher to take advantage of IRS tax benefits.

15. Chain restaurants will be required to provide a “nutrient content disclosure statement” alongside their items. Expect to see calories listed both on in-store and drive-through menus of fast-food restaurants sometime soon.

16. The bill establishes a temporary program for companies that provide early retiree health benefits for those ages 55‐64 in order to help reduce the often-expensive cost of that coverage.

17. The Secretary of Health and Human Services will set up a new Web site to make it easy for Americans in any state to seek out affordable health insurance options The site will also include helpful information for small businesses.

18. A two‐year temporary credit (up to a maximum of $1 billion) is in the bill to encourage investment in new therapies for the prevention and treatment of diseases.

Obama Pelosi Reid removal from office, Phase 4, Let the lawsuits begin, Let the state challenges begin, Remove the asses in November 2010, Let not your heart be troubled

Obama Pelosi Reid removal from office, Phase 4, Let the lawsuits begin

“Let not your heart be troubled”…John 14:1

Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have referred to this tax and control bill as historic. Indeed it is. It marks the most corrupt congress and white house administration in US history. It also will define the Obama administration and this Democrat controlled congress.
In phase 1, informed Americans tried to prevent an illegal takeover of the US government by the Obama camp.
In phase 2, more and more Americans learned the truth about Obama. This includes Democrats, Independents and even a few in the MSM, perhaps now even including Jack Cafferty.
We are in the midst of phase 3, the corrupt attempts to pass this tax and control Health Care Bill against the will of the governed. At best, this will allegedly begin covering some Americans in approx. 4 years after taxing us to death and ruining the economy even more.
Phase 4 begins tomorrow after the probable chicanery passes tonight. Do not worry. This will become a rallying cry. Like the shot heard round the world in the American Revolution. This will consist of numerous court and state challenges as well as futher preparation to vote the asses out in November. Remember, these fools have helped us in a way. They have placed a large red target on their backs.
Phase 5 will of course be the removal of these arrogant, corrupt politicians. That will include the removal of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi being removed as Speaker of the House and either impeachment proceedings against Obama or minimally his political demise by 2012.

Just a small point of view in a ocean of mud

What a strange trip this has been. I never wanted it. I always dreamed of doing something better.  Well for better or worse this is what I do. I work as a low-level employee in a major hospital. My mom was a nurse for over forty years. I was practically raised in the hospital. I have worked in hospitals for the better part of thirty years. I enjoy my job. I love taking care of and helping the patients. I know what it is like from both sides of the stretcher. I have been a patient, a family member of a patient, and finally as the employee. So i feel I have  a unique perspective on healthcare reform.

First of all I live in the state of  Massachusetts. We already require everyone to have health insurance. The state provides  plans that for all intent and purposes are affordable, and secondly that you must purchase one of the plans. If you don’t purchase one then the state fines you  six hundred dollars. The plans cost anywhere from  forty to one hundred and fifty dollars per month. What each plan provides depends on what you pay.Lower cost equals lower quality.

In this state we all heard the same  hype.It will cost millions. It will penalize those that already have insurance. It is socialized medicine. Guess what?  None of it ever  happened.  We all survived and the system rolled on. Will that be the case with the federal plan. Do not have a clue. All  I do know is that I don’t believe the hype.

My next point is that I don’t believe that the government should get involved. Why? because have you ever seen a veteran’s hospital. It so overloaded and bureaucratic it is hard to help the patients. I know because I have seen it. My mom’s favorite line about healthcare used to be. If it is logical and is common sense. Don’t do it ! But if it totally illogical and makes no sense at all.  Full speed ahead. That is the healthcare system.

When you’re sick and a patient waiting  for help. The delay is excruciating. You look around and other people who don’t look as sick as you are getting help. You aren’t and that stinks. I tell people who come to the hospital, and are waiting for help just .multiply everything that we say by three. If someone says to you’ be with you in a few minutes’. That’s an hour wait at least. We already work in a flawed system. The government thinks they can fix this. No not going to happen. Their solution is going to make it worse. because they are about to dump thirty million more people into this system. I am telling you then just multiply every thing we tell you by six.

Do I have a solution to this immense problem? Don’t know, but if they want to help. Why not start an incentive plan for the individual states to have plans like  we do in Massachusetts. Maybe give them some subsidizing.  Could work out to be cheaper than nine hundred forty billion.

Just a small fish’s perspective in a giant ocean of muddy waters

News From Around The Blogosphere 10.19.10

1. Regenerating limbs may be simply a matter of switching off a single gene – I wouldn’t take this story too seriously just yet but the research certainly sounds like it’s worth following. I just hope it doesn’t turn us into The Lizard:

But new research suggests the ability to regenerate isn’t based on something newts and flatworms have that we don’t; rather, it’s something we do have that’s keeping us from regenerating tissues. Researchers think a gene called p21 may control regenerative healing, and that by switching it off, humans could perform our own regeneration.

2. Skeptics to storm Parliament on Tuesday – It’s exciting to see the skeptical movement building a potentially powerful lobby to effect changes in public policy towards a more science and reason-based position. On Tuesday, skeptics in the UK will test the power of this lobby by organizing at the House of Commons to demand libel reform. Of course this is an issue that is not only serious for residents of the UK but everyone who criticizes advocates of bad ideas on the internet because from what some have told me, they too are potential targets of libel suits.

3. Student challenges unconstitutional policy in Alexandria High School in Alabama – The school performs daily Christian prayers over the schools P.A. system. He left a voicemail with the superintendent and contacted the ACLU. . .and it worked. The school is no longer performing the prayers. A job well done.

4. Ellen gives Constance McMillen $30,000 scholarship – I love this story. It shows that those who stand up against adversity can benefit from having the courage of their convictions and standing up for their principles.

5. California Bar now investigating queen Birther Orly Taitz – Another happy story. Taitz, who refuses to budge on her irrational belief that Obama is not a natural born citizen despite undeniable evidence to the contrary, continues to fight the $20,000 fine issued on her for making frivolous filings. And now she runs the risk of actually being disbarred. We can hope right. Of course it’s pretty silly that she even gets to call herself a lawyer given her pathetic credentials. Of course her lawyer is pushing the conspiracy angle and calling this a “witch hunt” but really, if she was an actual threat to the evil president’s position and they’d gone this far to cover up his origins, don’t you think they’d find a far more efficient way of getting Taitz out of the way. And you just know that whatever the outcome, she’ll just insist that the Bar Association is in on the evil conspiracy. So since she’ll attack them no matter what they might as well throw the book at her and make sure she’s never allowed to practice law again.

Not really the BSA

6. Catholics not the only ones covering up abuse - The Mormon dominated Boy Scouts of America (BSA) are facing a lawsuit claiming they too covered up child abuse.

The Boy Scouts of America has long kept an extensive archive of secret documents that chronicle the sexual abuse of young boys by Scout leaders over the years. The “perversion files,” a nickname the Boy Scouts are said to have used for the documents, have rarely been seen by the public, but that could all change in the coming weeks in an Oregon courtroom.

The lawyer for a man who was molested in the 1980s by a Scout leader has obtained about 1,000 Boy Scouts sex files and is expected to release some of them at a trial that began Wednesday. The lawyer says the files show how the Boy Scouts have covered up abuse for decades.

Well what do you expect from a cult who once had a leader named “Brigham Young”? Still the BSA are lightweights compared to the Catholic Church, which is known for having raped at least over a half million kids. And keep in mind that that’s only that we know of and the Church has proven capable of keeping this stuff secret for decades.

Obama a liar, CNN, Jack Cafferty, Obamacare, Health Care Bill, Secret negotiations, Obama pledged openness, Campaign promise lies, Nancy Pelosi lied in 2006, Voters remember this crap for mid term elections

Obama a liar, CNN, Jack Cafferty, Obamacare, Health Care Bill

Jack Cafferty on CNN calls Obama a liar.

“CNN – Liar in the White House”

Here are some notable quotes from Cafferty.

“White House and Democratic leader will hold informal, that’s another word for secret negotiations, meant to shut Republicans out of the process. That’s a far cry from the election, when then candidate Obama pledged to “broadcast the negotiations on Cspan so that the American people can see what the choices are.”"
“President Obama hasn’t even made a token effort to keep his campaign promises of more openness and transparency in government. It was all just another lie that was told to get elected.”

“When White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was asked whether the administration would support televising the negotiations, he refused to answer. Instead mumbling something about I haven’t seen the letter. That wasn’t the question Mr. Gibbs . You either support openness or you don’t. The democrats insist this is all on the up and up with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying “There’s never been a more open process for any legislation.” Really? This is the same Nancy Pelosi, who you may recall, after becoming speaker in 2006, promised the democrats “would have the most honest, most open and most ethical congress in history.”"
“Here’s hoping the voters remember some of this crap when the mid term elections roll around later this year.”

Chapter 7 & 8 of "Treating and Beating Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” by Dr. Rodger Murphree

Part 3: Your Path to Healing – Chapter 7: Treating with Orthomolecular Medicine

(portions of this blog came from Dr. Rodger Murphree’s book)

Our body’s homeostatic mechanism, the HPA-axis, and in fact every cellular process, depends on the proper amount of essential nutrients.  The raw biochemical material that makes up our physical and mental being first originates from foods.  The entire process is amazing: macromolecules of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are ingeniously used to provide the vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, enzymes, and amino acids to the body as it manufactures bone, muscle, organs, cells, hormones, enzymes, antibodies, white blood cells, neurotransmitters, and other life-sustaining elements.  We truly are what we eat.

The levels and interactions of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and the essential fatty acids determine our state of health.  You would be dead in days without these essential nutrients.  They help determine every bodily function: sleep, levels of pain, energy, moods, immune function, digestion, elimination thyroid production, metabolism, and more.  Every cell in the body is dependent on having the right amounts and right interaction of these essential nutrients to work correctly.

What is Orthomolecular Medicine?

When we establish nutritional deficiencies, our health suffers.  Man-made chemicals (synthetic prescription drugs) can’t correct these deficiencies, but a nutritional-replacement therapeutic program can.  This is the very premise of orthomolecular medicine, which means, “right molecules in the right concentration.”

Synthetic drugs may be helpful at times, but they always have an inherent ability to cause harm.  Not only are nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential fatty acids un-harmful, the body depends on them for survival.

Vitamin and Mineral Supplements

Problems such as hormonal, vitamin, and mineral deficiencies can contribute to muscle pain and soreness.

Below is a sample list of essential nutrients and their contributions to the treatment of FMS and CFS:

  • Vitamin E helps to relieve pain in CFS patients.  It can also improve nighttime leg cramps, which interfere with sleep.
  • Vitamin C boosts the immune system by increasing natural-killer cells, B cells, and T cells.
  • Magnesium and malic acid have been effective in relieving the symptoms of FMS.  Magnesium is essential to healthy muscle function, and working with malic acid, it increases cellular energy, reduces pain, and enhances immune function by increasing natural killer cells.
  • Inositol enhances the immune system by increasing natural-killer cells.
  • Selenium supports the immune system by enhancing antibody production.
  • Vitamin D regulates many immune functions.
  • Amino Acids, such as glycine, serine, taurine, and tyrosine, are essential for the production of energy in the body and for brain function.
  • Zinc supports the immune system by enhancing white-blood-cell activity and supporting healthy antigen-antibody binding.

Sadly, many of these nutrients are deficient in our society.  The facts are that most of our foods are processed, and therefore, the nutrients have been leeched out of them.  As a result 70% of the population is deficient in magnesium, 65% is deficient in zinc, 48% is deficient in calcium, and 56% is deficient in vitamin C.

It’s clear that everyone can benefit from taking a good multivitamin and mineral formula.  This daily habit reduces the incidence of heart disease, hear attack, stroke, glaucoma, macular degeneration, type-2 diabetes, senile dementia and various cancers.

But I already take a vitamin

You might be thinking, I’ve taken a vitamin for years, and I haven’t noticed a difference.  You probably haven’t been taking enough to even make a dent in your deficiencies.

Just a note:

Problems can occur with megavitamin or herbal therapy.  But if symptoms arise, reducing or stopping the therapy will almost always put an end to any side effects.  Working with a physician who specializes in vitamin, mineral or herbal therapies will usually help you avoid any negative effects in the first place.

Chapter 8: Your Stress-Coping Savings Account

We’re all born with a stress-coping “savings account” filled with chemicals – such as hormones, amino acids, and nutrients – that can be deposited and then withdrawn when needed.  Depending on our genes, some of us have large accounts and some of us have smaller ones.  The more stress we’re under, the more withdrawals we make.  If we make more withdrawals than deposits, we get overdrawn, and poor health quickly follows.  Individuals with fibromyalgia and/or CFS have bankrupted their stress-coping savings account.

Although some patients bankrupt their accounts with one overwhelming event, most experience a series of stressful events over the years.  These events typically involve stressful jobs, marriages, family dynamics, surgeries, illnesses, loss of a loved one, divorce, financial failure, etc.

FMS and CFS are the result of internal biochemical imbalances that manifest themselves as physical symptoms.  So in order to right the homeostatic system, you must correct the underlying biochemical problems.  Just like an onion, you peel away one layer at a time until you get to the core.

Layers if the onion (the book goes into detail for each item):

  • Dysautonomia and the HPA Axis
  • Hypothalamus Gland Dysfunction
  • Dehydration
  • Low levels of Human Growth Hormone
  • Low levels of DHEA
  • Low levels of Cortisol
  • Low Ovarian and Testicular Function
  • Hypothyroidism

The other layers of the onion (the book goes into detail for each item):

  • Intestinal Permeability (Leaky Gut Syndrome)
  • Malabsorption Syndrome
  • The Liver and Detoxification
  • Nutritional Deficiencies
  • Parasites
  • Food Allergies and Hypersensitivities
  • Candida Yeast Syndrome/Intestinal Dysbiosis
  • Trauma, Especially Neck Injuries
  • Depression
  • Infections
  • Poor Sleep

The next chapter is: Chapter 9: Stress as a Catalyst for Illness
